We started giving Adison a pacifier in the hospital and she took to it right away, but for the last few weeks it has become an addiction. She pretty much has it in her mouth 90% of the day and the other 10% she is freaking out because it has fallen out of her mouth. When we put her in her crib at night we give her the pacifier and we spend about an hour going back and forth from our room to hers to put the pacifier back in before she becomes a pacifier diva. I am sad to say we have created a monster and we are now having to work on ways of keeping her from it at night so we can get some rest. If anyone has some suggestions we would love to here them.
Well this is just from my exprience (all babies are different, obviously) .... I had 2 paci-toting babes, and both of my kids woke a lot at night.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion-- Put the crib in your room.... if only for a few months-- it is seriously easier- and I promise, she wont be sleeping in your room forever. When she is 6 months or so, it is not a huge deal to move her into her own room. She will start sleeping longer, and she wont know the difference.
As for the Pacifier.... here in a few weeks, she should get much better at leaving it in her mouth. You have to decide though- are you going to hang in there and wait for her to get the hang of it, or take it away all together? Cause she is too young to know that she only gets it sometimes. Some babies just need to suck when they sleep. For me, it was an easy decision to give my kids a plug, because I wasn't going to be the plug :) ... if she is "a sucker" she will just start sucking on her fingers, then you will have to deal with stopping her from that down the road. So...... if she needs to suck- she will. Whether that means she sucks a paci, or a finger- that is up to you. I say go for the plug-- it is easier to take away than a finger once she is older :)
and last-- I promise you this: just when you think you can't take the sleep deprivation anymore, she will start to sleep longer. You must be getting close..... is she about 6 weeks old?? That is when mine both started eating less, and sleeping longer.
You can do it Jamie and Kody!! You are doing great:) Hang in there!!
Thanks for the advice. She will be one month on Wednesday, so hopefully in two weeks she will start sleeping longer. Hopefully she will learn to keep the pacifier in her mouth so we don't have to spend half the night putting it back in.
